Medical Mutts like Alistair, represent the animals taken in by Follow Your Heart who require extensive medical treatment. This poor guy was found chasing a hamburger wrapper through the streets, AFTER having already been hit by a car. He was taken in and underwent multiple surgeries, received lots of medication, and attended several aftercare and physical therapy appointments.

Dental Dogs like Jax, represent animals taken in by Follow Your Heart who require extensive dental work which can often led to other health complications. This brave guy had such a bad dental infection, he needed 28 teeth extracted, 3 rounds of antibiotics, and now experiences symptoms of renal failure due to sustaining a prolonged infection. Jax is a “forever foster” who will permanently live with a Follow Your Heart Foster due to his need of ongoing medical attention.

Last Litter benefactors like Precious, represent mother dogs temporarily taken in by Follow Your Heart and offered prenatal care, a safe place to birth puppies, and a foster home to spend the appropriate number of weeks caring for the pups and getting them socialized. The mother and father (if applicable) are then altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated before being returned to their owners. The puppies are fully vetted and adopted out to great homes through the rescue. Precious had her puppies while in the care of FYH, all of which are happily nursing and growing until they are old enough to find their forever homes.

Parvo Pups like Nala, represent dogs brought into the rescue who are suffering from Parvovirus. They are brought into the Tigg Pen at Follow Your Heart Animal Hospital and given subcutaneous fluids, antibiotics, and all the medical support possible so their little bodies can fight off this terrible illness. Nala braved an initial parvo treatment and then suffered a relapse where she had to receive additional care. Her foster family was scared she might not make it, as parvo pups often do not, but this tough cookie pulled through and is now enjoying a life of fun with her forever family.

Health hounds like the Shield Maiden crew truly represent all dogs within Follow Your Heart’s care who receive deworming, parasite cleanup, vaccinations, microchips, spay or neuter, and various other forms of preventative care. These little troopers came to the rescue with worms, covered in ticks, and unvaccinated. They needed several baths, boosters, dewormer, parasite chewables, and a few hours with a good pair of tweezers! Once they were cleared of unwelcome guests, vaccinated, and spayed, they all found loving forever homes and are thriving in their new lives.
